Programs

Three programs, each a complete evening. Each has a default shape and one thing that can be adjusted for your room and your audience.

Saudade

Solo classical guitar

Saudade is the Portuguese word for a longing with no English equivalent - a presence felt through absence. The program moves between the European repertoire that shaped his training and the Brazilian voices he grew up inside.

Solo nylon-string guitar, played unamplified. It carries no production requirements and sits well in churches, museum galleries, libraries, and recital halls.

Repertoire territory
A representative program draws on works by Weiss, Scarlatti, Rodrigo, Egberto Gismonti, and Aylton Escobar.
Can be adapted
Written repertoire throughout, or with improvised interludes between the pieces.
Running time
60 minutes - two halves of 30 minutes with one intermission, or 60 minutes continuous.

Palhaco - Egberto GismontiWritten repertoire. Complete performance, single take. 3:02

Improvised interlude - classical guitarThe improvised option, composed live in a single take - the kind of interlude that can sit between the written pieces. 14:52

Nylon Meets Steel

Classical guitar into electric guitar, loops, and drums

One guitarist, one evening, two instruments. The concert opens on nylon strings in the classical tradition and then crosses - deliberately, in front of the audience - into electric guitar, live looping, and drums.

It is the other two programs in a single evening: the first half draws on Saudade, the second half is composed on the spot. The crossing between them is the centerpiece, and the title tells your audience it is coming, so they arrive ready for the journey rather than surprised by it.

Shape of the evening
Opens with classical repertoire on nylon strings and closes with electric guitar, live looping, and drums.
Can be adapted
The first half can be written repertoire, improvised, or a mix of both. The second half is composed live, and can carry written pieces through it as well.
Running time
60 minutes - two halves of 30 minutes with one intermission, or 60 minutes continuous.

Fantasie - Silvius Leopold WeissThe nylon half. Complete performance, single take. 2:44

Incompatibilidade de Genios - Joao BoscoThe steel half. The written melody is stated first, then improvised over its harmony. 6:35

Nothing Written

Live composition on classical guitar, electric guitar, or both

Nothing in this program is written down. Every piece is composed in real time in front of the audience. No two performances are alike, and no performance can be repeated.

The sound ranges from unamplified nylon strings through clean, Brazilian-rooted grooves to full distortion, and the balance can be set to suit your room and your audience.

Sound
Classical and electric guitar, loop station, and drums. Ranges from unamplified nylon strings to full distortion.
Can be adapted
Classical guitar alone, electric with looping and drums, or both across the evening.
Running time
60 minutes - two halves of 30 minutes with one intermission, or 60 minutes continuous.

Palm Breeze - classical guitar improvisationComposed live in a single take on nylon strings, never played before that moment. 3:07

An Adventure - live improvisationComposed in real time. The distorted end of the range. 2:29

Brazilian rhythm - live improvisationComposed in real time. The clean end of the range. 0:56

Biography

Eduardo Minozzi Costa is a Brazilian guitarist known for exceptional technical command, artistic depth, and a musical voice that moves between classical repertoire, improvisation, composition, and electric guitar expression.

He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Arizona, completed in 2012 after both his master's and doctoral studies there on full scholarship under Thomas Patterson. He earned his bachelor's degree in guitar performance at the University of Sao Paulo, studying with Edelton Gloeden, Paulo Porto Alegre, and Everton Gloeden.

Performance

In 2011 he was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. That same year he earned third prize at the Guitar Foundation of America competition.

In 2008 he received the Northern Trust/Piper Enrichment Award, which supported his attendance at the Koblenz Guitar Festival in Germany, where he became the first Brazilian finalist among eighty competitors.

He was selected by the University of Arizona Museum of Art to record a historical CD for its Rare Guitars Exhibition, performing on instruments from the early twentieth century.

Composition and improvisation

Alongside the classical repertoire, his work centers on original composition and on music created in real time - improvisation built live with electric guitar and looping, released continuously rather than assembled into records.
